"Do I... know you?"

Mark of the Champion | Clayre

Beaten, bruised, and bloodied, Clayre struggled to maintain her consciousness; her tattered body laid hidden, camouflaged by the prolific overgrown shrubs in the forest outside the Citadel of ‘The Order’. A single thread tethered her to the physical realm; her hands barely clinging to life. Bordering on the cusp of death she hung on for a miracle. Weeks later her eyes finally opened. Under the treatment and care of Chantay, a prestigious professor of ‘The Order’, Clayre endured an assortment of medication, spells, and physical therapy, to mend her broken bones, heal her wounds, and return functionality to her body. To their surprise, her reflexes were supernatural, she reacted without thought, and her strength bested that of the strongest guards on campus. Her mind, however, suffered irreparable wounds. Memories of the past, be they precious or perilous, were lost to her. Scattered along the wind, fleeting, they vanished as quickly as they came, however, their echoes incited a tempest of outbursts.

Clayre struggled to adapt to her residency at “The Order”, fearing an incident could potentially trigger a mental spasm, and without access to her past, Chantay and Clayre struggled to identify the cause of her frenzies. As her storms brewed more frequent and destructive, the frustrated administration declared Clayre hazardous, banishing her to the more desolate areas of the compound for her safety and their own. The duo continued to work diligently, desperate to unlock the mysteries of her past, and with every step forward, progress failed and stalled. Disillusioned, Clayre readied to depart, opting to restart her life instead of wasting Chantay’s continued efforts, but upon learning of her friend’s intent to enter the Magus Trials, she pledged herself as Chantay’s guardian, vowing to protect Chantay’s life the same way Chantay had saved hers.
