Staple cards

Staple cards in TCGs are cards that can be utilized in almost every deck. These staple cards, if used properly, can increase the value of any S3 deck competitively. While some players prefer not to use staple cards, either due to the cards not fitting the deck theme or the players believing that the utilization of staple cards would make every deck feel too similar, these cards (or card archetypes) are still available to be included in your deck to increase its viability. While staple cards can change based on new cards that are released and the current meta, here is a list of cards that can help your deck go from good to great!

Library Will:

Decrease your deck size by 1 by having a will card start in your library and guarantee you start with 1 extra will this turn which can make the difference between starting the conflict and being caught off guard.

Ohlera's Lemony Treat:

We all know having a bad starting hand can ruin a match. Drawing all of your 1TU cards or high CC cards will leave you wanting to keep them in your hand rather than giving them up early. With Lemony Treat you can return your cards to the deck and redraw, decreasing the odds of starting with a garbage hand.

Archetype: "Anti-Lingering"

Honorable Alternatives - Faith Walk, Focusing Voice

There are a number of powerful cards that "Linger" or get attached to champions in S3CCG. With New Beginnings, you're able to neutralize your opponents strategy and potentially disrupt their deck completely.

Strength of the Last Born Child or any species specific card:

Archetype: "Species Cards"

Cards such as Strength of the Last Born Child, Flight of the Zephrys, and Fyntaurian Resilience are powerful cards that can only be utilized by a certain species. If your champion belongs to that species then it may prove useful to include it in your deck and awaken your champion's full potential.

Archetype: "Chain Disruptors"

Joker cards can provide you and your opponents with a strategic advantage that allows you to create chains that normally would not be creatable due to action link scarcity. 1 Joker's Betrayal could allow you to disrupt your opponent's strategy and give you the upper hand!

Archetype: "Anti-Inventory"

With foods and potions becoming much more accessible and common, Sliest Koi's Tricks will not only counter your opponent but also scare them into not using a food or potion card in the future!

For 3 will you can dodge a spell attack, skip the damage, and potentially avoid the negative status effect of the spell. A well-timed roll can make the difference in any match and with so many action links available for roll, it would be a mistake not to include at least 1 in your deck!

Archetype: "Anti-Burst Defense"

Honorable Alternatives - Apex Trapping, CyD, Borrof Milk

Burst damage is at an all time high currently, but, with cards like Battle Blood Medium and Apex Trapping, you can reduce the damage received not just for one attack, but for the entire turn! Consider keeping one in your deck or quest deck for easy access!

Archetype: "Will Drivers"

Honorable Alternatives - Heart of the Cards Lvl 2, Lucky Pluck

Will is easily the most critical card in the game. Having access to more Will quicker than your opponent can really shape the flow of the battle. Cards like KFC and Lucky Pluck can quickly increase your access to Will and give you better tempo!

Parry (Hyper, Charged, or basic):

Archetype: "Weapon Breakers"

Weapon cards provide you with an increase to not only your stats, but also your skill tree! Most decks rely heavily on improving the skill tree to use certain cards. Breaking your opponents weapon can, in turn, break your opponent's deck.

Archetype: "Storage Disruption"

Defensive cards such as the aforementioned Roll or Parry can cause havoc on your strategy. Storage disruption cards can make implementing your big strategy a lot safer by returning or removing your opponents face-down cards from the Activity Zone.

While you don't have to include every staple recommendation in every deck, it may be wise to include at least 1 or 2 to disrupt your opponent's strategy and improve your odds of winning!
